This song was written by Jake Clayton, along with Rob Daniels, after the death of Jake's mother. The song is an emotionally challenging glimpse into the grieving process that comes directly after losing a loved one.

Jake had this to say about the song, "I loved my mother very much and when she passed it was really devastating emotionally. Rob had experienced the same emotions when his mother passed years ago so we were definitely on the same page when this idea formed. I have to say this was the absolute hardest song we've ever recorded. It was so personal to both of us, and even though writing it was somewhat cathartic, every step of the recording process was so difficult. Each time we opened the session to record my parts, it brought back those feelings. I have to admit, we postponed recording the parts for this song so many times simply because it was so hard to revisit these emotions over and over. We finally pushed our way through it and this song found it's home on my latest album “Signs”. I know we can all relate to the emotional experience that comes directly after losing a loved one whether it be a parent, a partner, or a friend. It seems even though you can love someone forever, they are not here forever, and that makes forever feel temporary.

Click the link to watch:
👉🏻WATCH “FOREVER” on YouTube👈🏻
Jake Claytontag:jakeclayton.com,2005:Post/73491372024-02-10T11:09:38-06:002024-02-10T11:09:39-06:00Featured on the Relix Magazine Sampler
Check out the Jan/Feb 2024 issue of Relix Magazine. It was our way to see what music looked like, not just hear it. We had a tv with the “rabbit ears” antenna that got 4 channels and MTV wasn’t one of them🤣 One of the biggest award show nights of the year for us growing up was the CMA’s. We would watch all of the artists singing their songs and they would always have a band there with them. It was the only time I could see images of someone playing a fiddle, dobro, banjo, mandolin, steel guitar, etc all while being recorded by our VCR! I could then watch it back as many times as I wanted. We even had a slo-mo feature that helped a lot.

With all that said, this Wednesday night I will be playing the CMA’s with Tanya Tucker and my constant companion for over 25 years, my Great Grandpa’s fiddle. This fiddle and I have been through more BS together than most people would have to deal with in 2 lifetimes. This instrument was in 6 pieces when it was plucked from the family storage shed back in 1997/1998. It was put back together by a luthier outside of Mexico, Mo. It has been to the other side of the globe with me. It has endured freezing cold weather and the sweltering heat of rodeos and county fairs. It has been on a billboard number 1 song and songs by Tanya Tucker, Sunny Sweeney, Chris Young, Donny Osmond, Clint Black, Tracy Byrd and Daryl Hall to name a few. I am so proud to be the current steward for this incredible instrument. I am also proud to share that it plays better now than it has as long as I’ve had it and it’s only getting more seasoned with time. We’ve got a long life left ahead of us🎻

Huge thanks to my Father who would have to have it restrung most times after my nephews would visit. They would get cutters and snip the strings off of it if it were ever left unattended in their presence. Only now is it really sinking in how much “faith” my parents had in me to put that kind of money into a instrument time and time again that was over 100 years old already. Fiddle/violin strings weren’t cheap either. Basically $75 a set installed at the time.

So, be on the lookout for my fiddle and I on the 57 Annual CMA Awards Wednesday Night! 7-10pm Central🎻
Jake Claytontag:jakeclayton.com,2005:Post/72918912023-10-22T20:35:53-05:002023-11-09T16:18:33-06:00Behind the Signs
The introduction video for Jake Clayton's new ‘behind the song’ video series has just been released!

“Behind the Signs” will have Jake breaking down his new album “Signs”, track by track, to tell the stories and inspirations behind each song. Fueled by a broad spectrum of emotions, Jake has crafted a collection of songs about his real-life experiences. From life, love, and adventure, to quarantine fueled questions and the loss of loved ones, “Signs” is an album of human experiences that everyone can relate to.

With “Signs”, Jake Clayton infuses his Country roots with Rock energy and an arsenal of Roots-based Instruments to create a sound that is comfortably familiar, yet strikingly hard to compare. On the musician side Jake performs the majority of Instruments on the album including bass, acoustic & electric guitars, fiddle, dobro, banjo, mandolin, piano, organ, steel guitar, and his own orchestra section including cello, viola, & violin. He tops everything off with his signature voice and precision harmonies. “Signs” also has guest drummers including Kent Slucher from Luke Bryan's band, and Jake's first official ‘feature guest’, songwriter and rapper Griffin Smith.

Signs was produced and recorded by Rob Daniels who also co-wrote 10 of the songs, and played additional electric guitar on the majority of them. Mixing engineers on the album include Billy Decker (Chris Young, Dustin Lynch) Patrick Thrasher (Cole Swindell, Rush) and Steve Blackmon (Blake Shelton, Luke Combs).

Click the link to take a listen to “Signs” on any streaming site or pick up a signed CD copy on the store page.

LISTEN TO SIGNS HERE
Jake Claytontag:jakeclayton.com,2005:Post/72810862023-09-30T14:50:33-05:002023-10-22T19:35:23-05:00Opening for Country legend Tanya Tucker
On Friday, September 30th Jake Clayton got the opportunity to open the show for the legendary Country Music icon Tanya Tucker at the Atlanta Symphony Hall in Georgia.
"Don't Get It Wrong" is an autobiographical take on Jake's experience in Nashville as an artist.

"All I've ever done and all I've ever wanted to do is play Country Music, and I've been fortunate enough to do that for most all of my life. I've done some amazing things and played with some incredible people. But when it comes to making my own Country Music, it appears that I don't fit "in the box" and I've heard it all... I don't have "the look", I don't write for radio, I'm too different for Nashville, I'm too Nashville to be an outlaw, I'm too Country for Rock, I'm too Rock for Country, I'm too modern to be real Country, but I'm too Country to be modern, I'm too good to open for this person, but not good enough to open for that person. It's never-ending. Who knew what I do and the music I make would be so incredibly confusing to other people? So, I wrote this song about me. It's about what I do, who I am, and what I think. If doin my own thing means I don't fit in with the majority, then I'll take center stage at the misfit party." -Jake

Jake has also released a music video for the song:

"I can not express how exciting it was to play the parts of a fiddlin' legend with actual members of his band. Charlie Daniels has been a huge influence on me as a fiddle player and a performer. I grew up playing his songs, I play them at all of my shows, and when I play in the honkytonks downtown I end up playing The Devil Went Down to Georgia several times a day. It was an incredible honor for me to be asked to do this, and it just might be the start of more things to come." - Jake Clayton

Check out Jake's cover of one of Charlie's most infamous songs, "The Devil Went Down to Georgia". Jake also took it a step further and changed the name of "Johnny" to "Charlie" as a tribute to the man who really is a fiddlin' legend!

"Why Wait?" was written by Jake Clayton and bandmate Rob Daniels. During the lockdown phase of the pandemic when all touring was pulled and recording studios were shut down, Jake and Rob immediately went right to work writing and recording new music. This is one of the songs that came from those writing sessions.

"The idea came after my mom’s passing. I was thinking back on our recent conversations where she had talked a lot about things she wanted to do with the rest of her life, and then getting smacked with the reality of not getting to do them. Life is fragile and short, and can change at any moment. When you have the opportunity to get out and enjoy this world, don't pass it up! Why Wait? Get up and go before it's too late!" - Jake Clayton

Jake joined Josh Turner, Lee Greenwood, Neal McCoy, Lorrie Morgan, T. Graham Brown, and many others on a cruise ship for a week of live performances.

Country Music star Neal McCoy showed up to watch one of Jake's performances. After the show he stopped by to compliment Jake and take a picture.

(l to r: Rob Daniels [guitar], Neal McCoy, Jake Clayton, Amanda McCoy [bass])

Later in the week, Neal spotted Jake in the crowd at his daily Pledge of Allegiance and told everyone watching on Facebook live to go check Jake out! Here's the shout out moment from Neal's page:

Jake got another surprise during an evening hangout at the ship's piano bar. Jett Williams, daughter of the legendary Hank Williams, stepped up to sing a Hank song. She let Jake request it, then she called him up to sing it with her. Unplanned and unrehearsed, just some late night fun on a cruise ship! One of the pianist playing that night was Tim Atwood, who played piano in the Grand Ole Opry house band for 38 years.

Here's an excerpt:

“His producer sent me the tracks,” Clayton continued, “and had kind of laid out what they wanted for the majority of the song, like a guide. I went through what he had done on keyboards and then played the parts on cellos, violas and violins. Then there’s like a breakdown section about three-quarters of the way through the song where it was left open for me to do what I wanted, so that section is me putting in whatever I wanted to do.” -Jake

Jake put together a 16-piece orchestra section (performed entirely by himself) and recorded the tracks at his own studio with engineer, producer, and bandmate Rob Daniels. That song, "Start Again" has become the title track for Osmond's upcoming album, and is available for streaming now on a 3-song pre-release sampler. The "Start Again" album is set for release on September 10th 2021.

"The Quarantine Sessions" features 6 full spectrum acoustic versions of modern Rock songs performed entirely by Jake Clayton. Jake had this to say about recording music during a pandemic:

"With all this time on my hands I decided to record some music outside of the Country world. Music that I really like and listen to a lot, but I don't normally get to play. So I locked myself in the studio with my engineer Rob Daniels and we cranked out some acoustic interpretations of modern Rock songs. These are not just acoustic guitar and vocal versions, this music has fiddle, dobro, mandolin, banjo, a string orchestra section, and all those Instruments I love to play. I even used a washboard, my cello case, and sometimes my legs for the percussion. This experience really helped break up the monotony of being on lockdown and out of work."

When it comes to Jake Clayton and studio partner Rob Daniels, they went right back to work! During the forced downtime the two spent a good portion of their time in the studio recording acoustic interpretations of modern Rock songs. Socially distanced and working together, Jake performed everything and Rob recorded and mixed it all. Now, we are excited to introduce to you the first release from this project we are calling the "Quarantine Sessions". The track is called "Hated" and it's a song from the metal band "Beartooth". Jake replaced the electric guitars with fiddles, dobros, mandolins, and more and the drum set was traded in for a washboard!

First off, Jake spent close to 3 weeks in Canada, not only playing Fiddle & Steel for Country Music legend Tanya Tucker, but also kicking off some of her shows singing and performing his 'crowd pleasing' version of the Fiddle classic, "Orange Blossom Special"!

After returning to the US with Tanya, Jake hoped on a plane to Lubbock, Texas to join Country Music Artist, Sunny Sweeney for a round of shows opening for the #1 selling solo Artist in US History, Garth Brooks!

Jake posted this on his Facebook Artist Page:

"I was inspired to start playing fiddle while watching Garth Brooks Live from Central Park. It has remained one of my biggest inspirations. Last night I got to play my fiddle in front of a packed arena right before Garth Brooks and his fiddle player Jimmy Mattingly hit the stage! This is a DREAM COME TRUE for me! AND, I get to do it again! Thank you so much Sunny Sweeney."

-"a master class in songwriting, sequencing, production, hooks, believability, you name it." - Austin Chronicle

-"with any measure of justice, Trophy will be recognized as the number one country album of the year" - Elmore Magazine

-"Sunny Sweeney's new album is simply stunning" - Lyric Magazine
Jake Claytontag:jakeclayton.com,2005:Post/64361472017-03-24T08:50:00-05:002022-04-20T17:42:27-05:00Visiting the 'Gold Tone Instruments' Factory
On his recent acoustic tour through Florida, Jake visited the Gold Tone Factory in Titusville, FL. Gold Tone deals in Banjos, Mandolins, Dobros, and more, which are used by some of the top players in the business! Gold Tone has also started making 'hybrid' instruments like Banjos & Mandolins with guitar necks, which make it easier for players of one instrument to get the sound of another. Gold Tone refers to these instruments as their 'Folkternative' line of products. Jake has been playing his Gold Tone banjo, that he named 'Bacchus', for 12 years now, and recently acquired the 'Paul Beard Signature-Series Squareneck Resonator Guitar'.

Jake met with the sales manager and spent the day shooting video for the company which included a version of Jake's own song 'Kickin Up Dust' performed entirely by himself on multiple instruments! We're looking forward to seeing the videos, but in the meantime, here are photos from Jake's visit. Thanks to Justin Grizzle, audio engineer Cameron Foster, and videographer James Rayner!
